Our Services

The Hobart Municipal Utilities Commission provides essential services to residents and businesses within the Village of Hobart.

💧 Water

Clean and reliable water service is provided from the Hobart Reservoir system. Our filtration ensures safety, clarity, and a taste that has been described as “slightly metallic, but in a good way.” Residents may notice a faint humming in the pipes at night, this is normal.

🚽 Sewer

Our sewer services handle wastewater responsibly, transporting it far beneath the Village for treatment. Occasional rumbling in the storm drains is not cause for alarm; it is simply the system “breathing.” Please avoid disposing of grease, wipes, or ceremonial ashes in the sewer system.

⚡ Electric

HMUC provides electrical service throughout Hobart using a modernized grid. Outages are rare, though squirrels occasionally challenge the system. Customers should report any flickering, buzzing, or unexplained warmth of household appliances immediately. Do not feed the transformers.

🔥 Gas

Natural gas service is available to most neighborhoods. Delivery is reliable, though residents are reminded that gas has no color and “sometimes takes on a personality of its own.” If you smell sulfur, evacuate immediately and contact HMUC. If you hear laughter from the pilot light, do not engage.

♨️ Steam Service

HMUC maintains a legacy steam distribution system in select areas of Hobart. Though no new connections have been approved since 1978, some businesses and residences remain tied into the network. Residents may notice vapor rising from grates, or the sound of distant whistling after midnight. This is considered normal operation.

🌐 Internet (Coming Soon)

Broadband internet service is in development. Early testing has shown promising speeds, though initial connections occasionally accessed “non-standard websites.” Service will launch once these anomalies have been fully understood.
